  • In 1953 he joined the Ball State University Journalism Department where he chaired the department, developed degree programs and advised the student media.
  • Became known as the Father of BSU journalism.
  • Published six books relating to the First Amendment and student journalism.
  • In 1981 he helped form the Student Press Law Center.
  • In 1980 the Louis E. Ingelhart First Amendment Award established. He is awarded the winner in 1983.
  • The Louis E. Ingelhart Scholars program provides high school students scholarships and participates in an immersive journalism project.
